the big lake

Last week we headed north to Lake Superior for several days of much needed play time. It was amazing. Loads of beach time, sand play, rock treasure hunting and seagull chasing. We had equal parts sun and rain but both seemed just right.

The first part of the week was just us, then later in the week we met up with friends here for a couple days of camping, learning and playing. It was so great to see good friends from the Kickapoo in the north woods.

This might have been one of my very favorite moments from our week. Iris and her friend raced along the beach ahead of me. When I caught up with them they were quietly and carefully at work adding to this already constructed driftwood sculpture. They worked wordlessly and intently for a long, long time. There was joy in their actions and maybe a bit magic floating off the lake to help them along.

Back at home with so many good memories and treasures (and sandy pants) to keep our hearts in the north woods for just a bit longer.

Have a lovely week!

I love the big lake-we saw 2 of the tall ships dock there in July when we were in Bayfield. Miss you guys, sorry we were not here when you wanted to come swim
