in like a lion

According to the calendar, yesterday was the official start of spring. And we've been seeing small signs of it everywhere.


In preparation for the start of "work season", last Saturday Andy took a hinge making class through the Driftless Folk School. Our friend Robert Schulz taught the class in his lovely workshop.

Here are are two of Andy's (still a bit unfinished) strap hinges that will hopefully make the doors on our barn a reality soon!

In our lighter moments last week (not the angry mile moments) Andy and I joked that the minute the taps go into the maple trees, you've turned on the spigot to "work season" and there is just no turning back. So with that in mind we've got projects. I hope you'll see here, during this short spring season, some photos of a finished chicken coop, those baby peeps, a hog (yes hog!) shelter and fencing, garden clean-up and planting, and of course plenty of time for springtime treasure hunting, puddle stomping and the preparation for a certain little birthday.

I'm starting to feel ready, bring it on.
