summertime learning

Since we homeschool, sometimes people ask us if we take a break from school in the summer.  I'm not totally sure of the answer, but I lean towards "no".  We don't do as much "academic" stuff, but we just finished kindergarten in a learning-toward-project-based learning-home and there wasn't a strong focus on academics anyway.  But since we really like to think we are learning all the time, I guess school is still in session.

Recently the girls let all their tadpoles go (after watching them morph from egg to almost frog (front legs, back legs, still a tail!).  And then were really eager to build a terrarium, so they did.

We had some fairly detailed discussions about Independence Day, and the Revolutionary War and then we watched the 4th of July parade and danced with our friends to the band in the park.

She still keeps working on her writing when she has something important to say.

   And the Wonder Board keeps growing with questions that have answers to seek.

We danced to a rockin' Cuban band and talked about Venezuela and then the girls ran off and got their faces painted, all by themselves.

We like to map the places we read about in books and learn about in our everyday.

We hone skills (cracking hickory nuts) with new people.

And after listening to Little House on the Prairie again, we play pioneers, (or is it Amish), a lot.  (No we haven't put them to work in the fields yet, but they look like naturals don't they?)
