Iris attended a fiddle workshop this weekend. It was with this amazing fiddle teacher. He and his teaching partner were so much fun. She had a blast. This kinda-shy- not so sure she likes new situations- but really loving her violin-girl amazed me. She got right in there with kids and adults she didn't know and played her violin (I mean fiddle). She learned new tunes. She even sang (albeit off-key) two verses of a song, by herself, in front of everyone.
She laughed, and raised her hand to answer questions, and worked really hard on new stuff. She didn't want my help (go figure). It was o.k. I just sat back with my mouth slightly agape and marveled at her.
At the end of the night, after a rousing concert by her two new teachers, she played, in front of a rather largish audience, with her fellow beginners. She was beaming.
Then she square-danced her heart out, hardly aware of where in the dancing crowd her folks were. So thrilled with this fiddle music she was. And on the way home she whispered: "Mama, Brian was 7 years old when he started playing violin. And he played Suzuki too". I know kiddo, isn't it great? Stars in her eyes, fiddle tunes in her heart, and a shell that she is quickly crawling out of. Watch this girl go.
So proud of you we are.
