Some weeks we are laid flat with vulnerability. Fear reaches in and renders us defenseless. This week was meant to be Andy's last treatment but his blood counts were too low to take it on, so we went home. In many ways we felt relief, but also worry and exhaustion.
Uncertainty has its seat center stage now, in this path we call life. It's been there all along (for all of us) but somehow it whispers louder at our table, in our dreams, as we tuck them in. At the end of treatment we are cut loose to fly our own kites. It's exhilarating. It's terrifying. We are determined to let vulnerability make us better people.
A great teacher reminded us recently that at the edge of the unknown is the only place that greatness, that real living, truly happens.
