the grumpy cure

Early Sunday morning brought a strong bought of storms to Vernon County and we found ourselves wide awake with two children and lots of questions at 1:30 a.m. Why does it thunder? Is it done thundering? Why are the lights out? Why can't I just turn on the light? Where does the light go? Is it done thundering? Can you turn on the flashlight again? Is it morning? Is it done thundering? After close to two hours of thunder and questions, we finally fell back asleep. Needless to say, day light came too quickly and with it two fragile, cranky children. The overcast day, threatening more rain, kept us in for awhile and we were all growing grumpier by the minute. Finally the decision was made to just get out. It was Father's Day after all, not a day to be grumpy, nor cooped up in the house. So we hit the trails.

As always, we found treasures. We also moved our bodies, breathed in the fresh air, marveled at the awe that is nature. And there was no grumping. None. Goodness, how many times do I need to learn this lesson? Just get outside!

Smiles were lighting the way by late afternoon. Supper on the patio and kids asleep by 7:00 p.m. (for a solid 12 hours!) Andy and I worked in the garden side by side until dark. A good ending to a happy Father's Day.

I absolutely love reading your posts. Makes me long to find peace of mind and heart up here... and go hike out in Corcoran-country or something. :) Much love.
