a lake superior reunion

About 18 years ago Andy joined the Peace Corps and flew to Africa to spend two years teaching in a remote village- making friendships and memories for a lifetime.  Last weekend we joined with 10 of his fellow volunteers and their families on the shores of Lake Superior for a very sweet 4 day reunion.

The last time the bunch of us got together (8 years ago!) there were far fewer children, (and o.k. fewer grey hairs too) but as always it was like no time had passed.  The stories, laughter and memories played long into the night.

We feel so lucky that this group agreed to meet in our neck of the woods, on the shores of our favorite big lake, no less.  It was close to perfect.

The kids melded like family (as their parents have for years) and there was no end to their fun.  Swimming, sandcastles, chess on the lawn, paddling the shoreline, skipping rope, climbing trees, watching a bit of the World Cup and then almost kicking the pants off the parents in a kids against parents match (don't worry kids, next time there will be way more grey hairs and you'll have em easy), fishing, chasing and tackling each other breathless, eating s'mores after bedtime and waking up to do it again.  So sweet to see them creating memories together just as their parents continue to do.

How blessed we are to have this big family spread all around the country and the means to bring ourselves together every so often.

We can't wait to see you all again soon.
