growing it-the late edition

November.
One easy way to grow your homestead is to truck your outbuildings in. Turns out this little cabin, that my dad hired our Amish friend Henry to build, was quite a hefty little thing. Maybe we should have asked Henry to put all the interior wood up once it was in place? Might have lightened the load.

Whoa...My dad loves this photo (it looks worse than it was). The cabin did actually stay on the trailer until they carefully manipulated it with two (2!) skidsteers into place on the pad we had prepared. We have the whole photo series, but somehow I think only my dad and Andy really appreciate the true excitement of heavy equipment running back and forth in a small space moving a really heavy cabin. So, I'll spare you the details and just move on to the lovely finished product.

Voila! Grampy Cabin. We love it and so does my dad. A cozy little spot for some peace and quiet and yet just a stone's throw away from a really loud house and, o.k., a good meal or two. He says we can lend it out to our friends when he's not visiting. Bonus.

On to the next project. Andy and two of his buddy's spent Wednesdays in November trading work days and we ended up with a framed-up top story of our barn. Pretty good deal.


We hope to build Andy's woodshop up here. There is still some work to do, but in the meantime the views are pretty sweet and a guy can stand up there and dream for a long time!
