a few of her favorite things

Iris has been working really hard at her violin.  She is loving it and we couldn't be happier for her.  Now don't go thinking that there are always smiles and cartwheels each night after dinner when it's practice time--no it's not that easy...but she is making good progress and she feels it.  It's rewarding and exciting for her.  Iris is learning violin with the Suzuki method, which means we learn right along side her.  It fits well with our homeschooling philosophy and she has really clicked with her teacher.  Two weekends ago we attended a Suzuki workshop in a nearby town.  There were about 80 students in attendance! A symphony orchestra of youth violin and cello players.  Iris was wide-eyed and much to our delight, completely ready to participate in everything.

Though she is playing only one rhythm on one string right now, it was pretty powerful to play with so many other children.  What a beautiful sound they made!  Our shy girl is creeping out of her shell, slowly making her way.

And this horse of hers...oh my.  I think she is diving right straight into horse-crazy.  Heck yeah.  A year ago she would have been tentative and nervous.  Now she is confidently leading, haltering, brushing (and please can we bathe her mama?) and sitting on her.   It's so fun to watch.  And really, just a little bit of a dream come true for me.

Don't worry, that little one is not far behind.  She'll do at least as much as her big sister does, you know.
